Volumetric geogrid GR 20/10 is made of high-strength polyethylene tapes connected by welds in a certain order. When stretched to the working position, a three-dimensional cellular structure is formed, which stably keeps its shape in both vertical and horizontal directions.
Thanks to the flexible polyethylene that forms a strong three-dimensional frame, this geogrid is suitable not only for smooth surfaces and gentle slopes, but also for areas with complex topography, ensuring reliable fixation even on uneven areas.
The field of application of a three-dimensional geogrid
Volumetric geogrid is widely used in construction, hydraulic engineering, agriculture, as well as in anti-erosion and landslide protection measures. It is effective for beautification of adjacent territories and in landscape design.
Geogrid capabilities
Thanks to the use of a geogrid, you can:
- carry out anti-erosion protection on natural and artificial slopes and slopes;
- to strengthen the shores of reservoirs, slopes of canals and drainage ditches;
- build retaining walls;
- stabilize weak and heterogeneous soils;
- create a basis for soil conservation on the slopes with the subsequent application of a fertile layer and sowing of lawn;
- to reinforce soils for the construction of roads, parking lots, sidewalks, laying tiles;
- to strengthen inert layers for the durability of coatings.
Using a geogrid, you can save up to 50% on soil strengthening and significantly reduce labor costs.
Geocells on the slope reliably retain fertile soil, which promotes the growth of vegetation and protects it from erosion.
For steep slopes (over 45°), it is recommended to use a geogrid with a smaller cell size — 16x16 cm, and for slopes with an angle of 45°, the best option is cells of 21x21 cm. A geogrid with a cell height of 10 cm is suitable for any slopes, and a height of 15-20 cm is effective on infertile soils (clay, rocks), keeping a sufficient volume of soil for vegetation. In such cases, it is important to securely press the geocells into the foot of the slope and ensure high-quality soil compaction for maximum stability.
To strengthen the shores with the help of a three-dimensional geogrid, it is recommended to choose the size of the geocells, similar to the landscaping of the slopes. A non-woven geotextile substrate with a density of 150-200 g/m² must be used under the geogrid filled with crushed stone. Such a geotextile performs a filtering function, preventing the soil from being washed away during rains and changes in the water level in the reservoir, which protects the geogrid from settling.
The geogrid is fixed to the surface and to each other using L-shaped anchors made of steel reinforcement with a diameter of 8-14 mm and a length of 50-120 cm (depending on the strength of the soil). The number of anchors (1-3 pieces/m²), their length and location depend on the steepness of the slope and the height of the geocells. Additional anchors or wooden pegs help form diamond-shaped cells, which are later removed.
When filling the cells, the filler should protrude 3-5 cm above the walls. Most often, for the drainage and anti-erosion effect, a layer of geotextile is placed under the geogrid.
