Which mastic to choose for waterproofing concrete rings

Waterproofing of concrete rings is one of the key stages in the arrangement of water supply, sewage and drainage wells. Even high-grade concrete remains a porous material that absorbs moisture. Water entering the concrete structure leads to gradual destruction, the formation of cracks and loss of tightness of joints. Therefore, high-quality waterproofing is a prerequisite for the durability of such structures.

The best solution for external protection of concrete elements is bitumen-rubber mastic IZOPLAST B. This is a ready-to-use water-based emulsion, which after drying forms a seamless elastic film with high adhesion to concrete, cement-sand mortars and bricks.

Main properties of IZOPLAST B

Mastic combines the waterproofing of bitumen with the elasticity of rubber. The coating effectively protects concrete from the effects of groundwater, salts, weak acids and alkalis. Due to the high content of dry residue (up to 80%), a dense waterproofing layer with a thickness of 1–2 mm is formed after applying two layers.

Advantages of IZOPLAST B :

  • high adhesion to mineral surfaces;

  • resistance to freeze/thaw cycles;

  • temperature resistance from –20°C to +80°C;

  • ease of application;

  • possibility of use with IZOPLAST R primer for better adhesion.

Application technology

  1. Surface preparation: clean the concrete from dust, oils, dirt.

  2. Priming: apply IZOPLAST R primer to improve adhesion.

  3. Applying the mastic: mix thoroughly before use. The first layer is applied with a brush or roller (consumption 0.8–1.2 kg/m²).

  4. Second layer: after the first layer has dried (approximately 8 hours), apply the second layer (0.6–0.8 kg/m²).

Work is performed at air temperatures from +5°C to +25°C in calm weather without precipitation.

For roofing work or open elements, it is recommended to sprinkle the finishing layer with mineral chips - this increases the wear resistance of the coating.

Technical specifications

  • Composition: water-based bitumen-rubber emulsion

  • Density: 0.985–1.015 g/cm³

  • Drying time: ≤ 8 hours

  • Ignition temperature: +200°C

  • Application temperature: +5°C…+25°C

Security and restrictions

IZOPLAST B is a flammable material, therefore work should be carried out outdoors or in well-ventilated areas, using personal protective equipment. The mastic is not intended for indoor living spaces and should not come into contact with drinking water or food.

IZOPLAST B is a reliable waterproofing mastic that provides long-term protection of concrete rings, foundations and underground structures from moisture penetration. Due to its high elasticity and resistance to aggressive environments, the material effectively extends the service life of concrete structures.
