Methods of fixing bentonite cord and their differences

You can fix the bentonite cord mechanically or with a sealant.

  • The first option involves the use of dowels. With the mechanical method, the cord is strengthened along the element on the planes of vertical and horizontal arrangement.

In this case, the dowels are installed at a distance of 25-30 cm. If the volume of the filler element is significant, and the level of lateral pressure is extremely high, it is necessary to increase the reliability of fastening with a special expanded steel mesh. The bentonite cord is mounted in such a way that it is attached with dowels to the concrete surface together with the mesh.

  • For an alternative method, you will need InnoElast adhesive sealant. Additional use of dowels on surfaces located vertically or horizontally is also possible.

InnoElast sealant is considered a construction adhesive of universal specificity. To glue the cord that provides sealing, the appropriate adhesive mixture is applied to the base of the surface. After that, they are maintained for a certain time specified in the instructions for using the glue.
The swelling bentonite cord is installed in the position provided for by the project. While the glue dries, the joint should be stationary – this will ensure optimal adhesion.
You can also use other brands of adhesive sealant. They are used in accordance with the instructions with which these materials are completed by their manufacturers.

When selecting glue, you should make sure that it is compatible with the types of all raw materials on the basis of which the cord is made.
If the installation conditions are complex and the configurations are non-standard, experts recommend attaching the cord to both the dowel and the glue at the same time. This combined method will allow you to get the most reliable fixation. It is advisable, for example, on curved arc-shaped structures.

How to connect two cords longitudinally?

To attach two profiles in this way, their edges are bifurcated at a distance of 10 or more centimeters. Next, the ends are connected by the tongue-and-groove method, after which the joint zone is attached to the base. They do this carefully to ensure the reliability of the design.

Such installation works are acceptable for straight sections. When the working area is not smooth and includes complex configurations, bentonite cords can only be laid with a single piece of profile.
If the parameters of a non-standard section exceed the length of the cord, the profile should be fixed at points accessible and relatively equal. In this case, it is necessary to pay increased attention to the quality of the connection – the fasteners must be flawlessly reliable.
